Information about Arlington Hill and Arlington Hill West Cemeteries
We so appreciate that you have chosen our cemetery for your loved ones final resting place. Our Cemetery was founded in the year 1881. In 1884, 4 plots (now in Block 10) were set aside for “Soldiers Burials”. The supervision of this area was delegated to the A. Lincoln GAR post. In 1897 the GAR obtained the Dahlgren cannon and 100 cannon balls for a memorial in the cemetery. The cannon and the cannon balls remain to this day. They are the center piece of the area set aside in the Cemetery for Civil War soldiers, as well as our new veteran’s memorial in Arlington Hill West. They are the crowning glory of our cemetery. The original Arlington Hill Cemetery is made up of 14 beautiful acres. The new Arlington Hill West was added in 2011 with 7 1 / 2 acres. The Cemetery contains beautiful trees, fauna and rolling hills. Many of our cities’ founding fathers are buried in our cemetery. We have several unique monuments. One has the base being shipped in from Scotland and the statue on the top being shipped in from Italy. Many of the monuments from the ” Woodman of the World” organization are so delightful. Viewing our cemetery on Memorial day is a true reflection of Patriotism. Hopefully this book will be useful to you as you purchase a lot, or put your loved one to rest in our very special cemetery.
